The “Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams” exhibition in Japan cleverly combines the dual characteristics of technological innovation and traditional culture, and redefines the narrative of fashion exhibitions through groundbreaking set design.
The exhibition design creates a multi-layered aesthetic experience through the dramatic transformation of light and shadow, the ingenious change of spatial scale, and the contrast between organic forms and geometric grids. This design not only reflects the diversity of the Dior brand in different historical periods, but also reinterprets traditional Japanese cultural elements such as shoji screens and Japanese paper in a modern way, forming a unique dialogue between Eastern and Western aesthetics.

OMA’s design emphasizes immersive experience. Each of the 22 themed exhibition areas has its own unique environment, making visitors feel as if they are traveling through different chapters of Dior’s 76-year history. The “Dior and Japan” exhibition area uses winding paths to imitate tea garden trails. The wooden structure and backlit Japanese paper create a layered luminous background, perfectly showing the deep connection between the brand and Japanese culture.

The “Dior Heritage” exhibition area has constructed a fashion dialogue space across the ages through innovative spatial narratives. The exhibition area adopts a modular design, using enlarged fabric panels to build a grid-like display system – this structure not only echoes the precise tailoring craftsmanship of haute couture, but also cleverly incorporates traditional Japanese space separation elements.

The most eye-catching “Dior Ball” scene in the exhibition creates an infinitely extended visual effect through the tilted mirrored floor and pyramid-shaped staircase, and the array of mannequins in gorgeous costumes forms a shocking visual spectacle. This spatial experience of grandeur and intimacy is the best embodiment of the exhibition’s concept of “transcending spatial limitations.”
