Concept: A museum that is continuously created by everyone
With citizens at the core, we gather diverse groups of people to interact and exchange ideas here. Through a variety of activities, we aim to preserve the historical context of the region, explore the unique charm of Toyota, and work together to shape the future of Toyota City.
The permanent exhibition, themed “Toyota’s Nature and People’s Livelihood,” creates an immersive space where visitors can encounter, converse with, and delve into “Toyota” by showcasing “objects” (physical materials) closely related to “Toyota” and people’s “memories.”.

Core Highlights
Toyota Story – Glass Cube
The transparent glass cube, towering at 7.8 meters, transcends traditional categorization boundaries, presenting a comprehensive portrayal of “Toyota” through a vast array of cross-disciplinary physical exhibits. Each of the cube’s four sides corresponds to a distinct themed exhibition area, with exhibits closely related to that theme displayed on each side.
Toyota Memory Journey
Through animations and live-action footage, characters from different eras narrate their memory stories related to specific items. Simultaneously, the museum actively collects and exhibits visitors’ own “memories”, allowing the public to become co-creators of the exhibition content.
Giant Real-Life Geographical Environment Model
By condensing the diverse topographical and geomorphic features of Toyota City and combining them with dynamic background imagery, the exhibit vividly portrays the living scenarios of people coexisting with nature in different natural environments. On top of the large-scale dioramas, miniature scenes focusing on the daily lives of local residents are set up. Visitors can directly see some of the permanent exhibition hall’s collections in these scenes, achieving an organic integration of macro and micro narratives.
Everyone's Research Room
Provide citizens with a space for independent research and deep engagement. After a brief training, citizens can go upstairs to consult the museum’s collection, conduct personal investigations or specialized research, and truly become active users of the museum.
Children's Interaction Area
Transform local specialties such as Wupingbing and charcoal-grilled sweetfish into fun play facilities, allowing children to embrace the cultural charm of “Toyota” while playing, and fostering a sense of affinity towards the museum from a young age.
Yuanri (Temple Fair) Space
In the open public area, citizens and businesses are encouraged to independently plan small exhibitions, workshops, and other activities, much like traditional temple fairs. This space has become a symbolic venue for citizens to gather, exchange ideas, and collaborate.
Modular Exhibition System
To support the collaboration between art students (curators) and citizens in exhibition setup, various types of standardized exhibition equipment have been specially designed. These exhibition equipment are not only flexible in function, but also largely made of local Toyota wood, echoing the architectural space while reflecting respect and utilization of local resources.
