2023年12月27日,世界上首个线上线下融合的图书馆元宇宙——北京城市图书馆元宇宙体验馆正式开馆。沉浸式的“数字叙事”,让读者可以摆脱时空间限制,浸入到知识的元宇宙中。 主创团队某集体ART+TECH将元宇宙的线上与线下体验相融合,让线下体验场景成为进入元宇宙的空间入口,打造以知识分享为核心的图书馆元宇宙原型,这里既是读者“数字化身”的登陆场,数字阅读的体验场,也是知识分享的社交场。元宇宙馆延展了图书馆的物理空间,增强了读者的阅读体验,还拓展了图书馆的服务维度。让读者体验面向未来的个性化、沉浸式、交互式图书馆服务。
On December 27, 2023, the Beijing City Library Metaverse Experience Hall—world’s first integrated online-offline library metaverse—officially launched. Led by creative collective MOUJITI ART+TECH, it merges online and offline metaverse experiences, with offline spaces serving as gateways to a virtual realm where knowledge takes center stage. Through immersive “digital storytelling,” visitors transcend time and space to immerse in this knowledge-focused metaverse, which functions as a launchpad for digital avatars, a venue for digital reading, and a hub for knowledge-sharing social interactions. Beyond expanding the library’s physical reach, it enhances reading experiences and broadens services, offering a preview of future personalized, immersive, and interactive library services.

它位于图书馆一层西北角,东侧联通“山谷大厅”,北侧联通“24小时阅读区”,西侧联通“库本阅览区”,是两个阅览区的前厅,也是进出图书馆山谷大厅的序厅,在区域位置上是“山谷大厅”、 “24小时阅读区”、 “库本阅览区”的交汇处。
Located at the northwest corner of the library’s first floor, the Beijing City Library Metaverse Experience Hall connects to the east with the Valley Hall, to the north with the 24-hour Reading Area, and to the west with the Reserved Book Reading Area. It serves as the foyer for both reading areas and the introductory hall for entering/exiting the Valley Hall, positioned at the convergence of the Valley Hall, 24-hour Reading Area, and Reserved Book Reading Area.

01 五大交互设计 / Five Interactive Designs

本次创作我们将元宇宙馆概念,分为五个板块如下图所示:

I 思之域-公共元宇宙 / Realm of Thinking – Public Metaverse

搭建北京城市图书管公共元宇宙场景,用户在大屏幕中以“第三视角”进行漫游,在手机端中以“第一视角”进行体验与互动。
We are constructing the public metaverse space of Beijing City Library, where users can explore via a “third-person perspective” on large screens and experience & interact through a “first-person perspective” on mobile devices.

用户在公共元宇宙中,整个场景基于北京城市图书馆空间特色进行重新构建,读者的数字人形象可进入古籍、少儿、艺术、非遗在元宇宙中映射的“少年儿童馆”、“古籍文献馆”、“艺术文献馆”与“非遗文献馆(地方文献馆)”四个主题场景,并与场景进行互动;可与NPC进行交流互动;可了解馆内的活动信息、图书短评等,读者可与元宇宙中的发送表情、留言等。
In the public metaverse, the space is reimagined based on Beijing City Library’s spatial features. Readers’ digital avatars can enter four themed scenarios—”Children’s Library”, “Ancient Books Repository”, “Art Literature Hall”, and “Intangible Cultural Heritage Repository (Local Literature Hall)”—interact with the scenes, converse with NPCs, access in-library events and book reviews, and send emojis/messages within the metaverse.

II 阅次元-个人元宇宙 / Reading Dimension – Personal Metaverse

每个读者都是一个宇宙。读者可在此根据提供的道具,搭建自己心目的书房,体现每个人理想中的阅读环境,也是读者阅读时心境的一种表达。
Every reader is a universe. Here, using provided tools, readers can build their ideal study spaces—reflecting each person’s ideal reading environment and serving as an expression of their state of mind while reading.

III 言之境-公共数字人 / Realm of Expression – Public Digital Human

呈现鲁迅、儿童、未来人三个。读者可与不同的数字人进行语音对话。
Features three figures: Lu Xun, a child, and a future human. Readers can engage in voice conversations with different digital humans.

IV 化之身-用户数字人 / Transformed Self – User Digital Human

读者可在此创建自己的数字人身份,并登陆公共元宇宙进行互动。

V 数据海-数据之海 / Data Sea – Sea of Data

对馆藏数字资源进行意象化展示,形成可视化的数据图像,成为贯穿空间中的流动画面。
The library’s digital collections are presented imaginatively, forming visualized data images that flow as dynamic visuals throughout the space.

03 空间结构设计 / Spatial Structure Design

通过采用立屏(位于墙面)、地屏(位于地面)、天花屏(位于天花)、透明屏(位于立住、结构柱)、镜面(位于地面、天花)等显示媒介,形成画面延伸、相互反射、多维交织的视觉效果。
Through the use of display media such as vertical screens (positioned on walls), floor screens (positioned on the ground), ceiling screens (positioned on ceilings), transparent screens (positioned on columns, structural pillars), and mirrors (positioned on the ground, ceilings), visual effects of extended imagery, mutual reflection, and multi-dimensional interweaving are created.

04 何以接入元宇宙 / How to Access the Metaverse

I  “元宇宙”概念的实践案例 / Practical Cases of the Metaverse Concept

当前对“元宇宙”的讨论,多停留在概念层或技术层,尚没有优质的实践案例,更多的是在讨论智慧图书馆建设过程中产生的一些交互体验,或者是各种元宇宙平台中开展论坛、比赛、展览等,很大程度停留在数字孪生的层级中。首图元宇宙体验区的建设,希望能够成为图书馆在“元宇宙”概念下的实践案例,成为图书馆探索“元宇宙”过程中的“初代元宇宙”。
Current discussions on the “metaverse” mostly remain at the conceptual or technical levels, with few high-quality practical cases. What exists more are interactive experiences emerging from smart library construction processes, or forums, competitions, and exhibitions held on various metaverse platforms—all of which largely stay at the level of digital twins. The construction of the Capital Library’s Metaverse Experience Zone aims to become a practical case of libraries under the “metaverse” concept, serving as a “first-generation metaverse” in the library’s exploration of the metaverse.

II “数字化身”的登陆场 / Launchpad for Digital Avatars

首图元宇宙沉浸场将线上场景线下化,线上互动体验化,通过沉浸场强化首图元宇宙的整体概念与多元服务,成为读者数字化身的登陆场。此登录场可以定义为,现实登录到虚拟同时也是虚拟登录到现实。
The Capital Library Metaverse Immersive Space transforms online scenes into offline experiences and online interactions into immersive ones. By reinforcing the overall concept and diversified services of the Capital Library Metaverse through this immersive setup, it serves as a launchpad for readers’ digital avatars. This launchpad can be defined as a space where reality transitions into the virtual and the virtual transitions into reality simultaneously.

III “首图元宇宙”的中转站 / Hub of the Capital Library Metaverse

体验区是线下线上的双重空间互通点,空间把线上内容脱离移动端在线下进行沉浸式体验,同时线上需要建模一个空间,实时反应线下空间的参与者的位置、流量、行为,实现物理世界与数字世界之间的双向链接。
The Experience Zone serves as a dual-space interchange connecting offline and online. It transcends mobile devices to deliver immersive offline experiences of online content, while the online platform requires a modeled space to track participants’ positions, traffic flow, and behaviors in the offline space in real time—enabling bidirectional connectivity between the physical and digital worlds.

IV 从“进入”到“浸入”的混合空间 / Hybrid Space from Entry to Immersion

线上元宇宙不是虚拟展厅,线下元宇宙不是互动展项。因此,本体验区不仅要让读者“进入”,通过互动形式和数字技术体验数字内容;更要让读者“浸入”数字世界中,在此混合空间里,现实行为是为了驱动数字空间中的行动,是为了可感地探索虚拟世界,支持读者的数字化身更加便捷、有趣地体验图书馆的服务。
The online metaverse is not a virtual exhibition hall, nor is the offline metaverse merely an interactive exhibit. Therefore, this experience zone aims not only to let readers “enter” and engage with digital content through interactive formats and digital technologies, but also to enable them to “immerse” themselves in the digital world. Within this hybrid space, real-world actions are designed to drive actions within the digital space—allowing tangible exploration of the virtual world and supporting readers’ digital avatars in accessing library services more conveniently and enjoyably.

V 开放的“数字叙事” / Open “Digital Storytelling”

摆脱时间、空间、物理等条件限制,读者在元宇宙体验区内,在混合空间的大语境下,感受技术带来的开放数字叙事。在现实场景中,数字终端能够承载更多信息量,以“叙事”的方式为读者呈现内容,但依然受制于参观动线的,很大程度上是线性叙事的逻辑。但在元宇宙体验区内,读者不论在任何区域都能进入元宇宙,都可以体验元宇宙,并根据读者身份进行个性反馈,将读者以数字人的形式带入到元宇宙场景中,在元宇宙线上环境中展开非线性的数字叙事。
Breaking free from constraints of time, space, and physical conditions, readers within the Metaverse Experience Zone—under the overarching context of the hybrid space—can engage with open digital storytelling enabled by technology. In physical settings, digital terminals can carry richer information and present content through “narrative” formats, yet they remain constrained by visitor flow, largely adhering to linear storytelling logic. Within the Metaverse Experience Zone, however, readers can access and immerse themselves in the metaverse regardless of their location. They receive personalized feedback based on their identities, are brought into metaverse scenes as digital avatars, and engage in non-linear digital storytelling within the online metaverse environment.
