After 25 years of operation, the Osaka City Sewer Science Museum has been fully upgraded and has become a facility with both popular science and educational functions, aiming to enhance the public’s understanding and attention to the Osaka City sewer system. The exhibition in the museum is mainly aimed at fourth-grade elementary school students. Through interactive theater and special exhibition areas, the functions, operating principles and social value of sewers are vividly displayed. In addition, the museum also has theme exhibition areas such as technology research and development and international cooperation, and displays introductions to many cooperative companies involved in the construction of Osaka’s sewer system.

The center will serve as a comprehensive information hub in the field of sewerage, mainly undertaking the three core functions of “learning and training”, “overseas business” and “technical development”. We hope that through this platform, we can enhance the public’s understanding of the sewer system and make more people realize that although it is hidden from daily life, it is an important “lifeline” to maintain the operation of the city.

We hope to help visitors understand this urban lifeline system more deeply by guiding them to think about various issues related to the sewer system and transforming these issues into things that are closely related to individuals.
The exhibition takes the core question “What is the sewage treatment system?” as the starting point, and through immersive experience, visitors will rediscover that the modern life conveniences that we take for granted are actually inseparable from the silent support of the sewer system. What’s more special is that the exhibition uses interactive devices to allow visitors to operate by hand and intuitively experience the entire sewage treatment process that is difficult to see on weekdays.
